abobe •Illustrator notes

  • Illustrator is vector based and is not pixel based. it is better for graphics as it is more flexible and does not distort the image.
  • it uses layers just like photoshop but make sure to lock it when you are not using it.
  • selection and direct selection tools are key
  • fill to fill an object
  • stroke to add an outline
  • opacity makes it solid/ see through
  • selection tool allows you to e.g rotate (just like photoshop)
  • direct selection creates anchor points and anchor
  • shapes tool too are very useful
  • effects e.g blur or 3D
  • you can import JPEGs and convert to vector using live trace for a stylized look
  • text tool is used for selection to move, resize or rotate
  • window- type- character- experiment (manipulate e.g tracking and spacing)
  • right click text to create outline. this creates anchor points which allows you to isolate and edit smaller parts of text.
  • pen tool allows you to add to anchor points
  • to export: file- export- PNG file- select high resolution. make colour transparent.

college magazine evaluation

In my opinion I think that the photography and masthead went well. At first I had to change my front cover image because it was too stretched out and it was a extreme close up which made it look odd.so I resolved this by taking a medium shot which I found looks a lot better than just extreme close up. The masthead is clear and easy to read advertising my magazine very well I chose the colour white because it is simple and easy to read against the background of the brickwall.my font size was consistent on the front cover and contents page. The layout of my contents page went well everything was in line and neatly ordered text on one side images on the other. Sub heading and page number were included which made it easier to read. The feedback suggested that I needed to include a bar code and price, and also more cover lines as for my contents page. Further feedback suggested that I needed more colour and a range of texts on my contents page. Overall I think it was good but there are still a few things to work on and change when doing my music magazine. My three key points for development would be to research carefully what kind of cover lines that i am going to include in my music magazine so they fit my genre. Also to think carefully about my overall layout so it is appealing to the eye but clear and easy to read. Finally I would think carefully about how my model is going to pose so it is striking and unique as this would fit in with my music magazine. For my contents page I will chose a colour scheme that is effective and fits in with the target audience as my college magazine contents page was dull and lacked colour. I will also develop my layout so it looks quirky and different because my college magazine contents page was fairly basic and not very daring.

Muisc magazine newsstand task

this is the music magazine section in whsmith Ilford as you can see there are a variety of music magazines being dsiplayed for  example NME,XXL,country and opera. The magazines are neatly displayed so  that the lower left third is showing allowing space for freebies main cover lines etc. The masthead on most of the magazines are also clearly displayed and clear in bold writing to read catching the audiences  attention. The magazines are also placed according to their genre   to their genre the rock section as you  can see is placed with NME rock n  roll etc  this would make it easier for the target audience to look at their preferred genre of magazines. Also the more well known magazines were displayed at the front as they are likely to be the best sellers.it is also clear that the colour scheme through the news stand is fairly similar the colours red white and black seem to be on most magazines.
